How to Take a Screenshot of an Error Message
Capturing a screenshot of an error, browser window, or technical console log helps our support team diagnose and resolve your issues much faster.
📸 Capturing a Screenshot on Your Device
When you hit an error, a screenshot showing the exact message and the full screen around it helps us solve the issue much faster. Here is how to grab one.
On a Mac
- Whole screen: Press Shift + Command + 3.
- Just a section: Press Shift + Command + 4, then drag a box around the error.
- The image saves to your desktop automatically.
On Windows
- Press Windows key + Shift + S, then drag a box around the error.
- The snip copies to your clipboard. Paste it (Ctrl + V) straight into your email or support reply.
- Alternatively, press the Print Screen (PrtScn) key to capture the whole screen.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Face ID models: Press the Side button and the Volume Up button at the same time.
- Home button models: Press the Side (or Top) button and the Home button at the same time.
- The screenshot saves to Photos.
On an Android Phone
- Press the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
- The screenshot saves to your Photos or Gallery (steps vary slightly by brand).
🎯 Make the Screenshot Useful
- Capture the whole browser window: Do not just capture the error box, as the web address and surrounding page give us helpful context.
- Keep full text visible: Do not crop out the error wording, as the exact text is the most important part.
- Check legibility: If there is a code or reference number in the message, make sure it is readable.
🛠️ Optional: Capturing a Browser Console Error
For trickier issues, our team may ask for a "console error". This is a more technical log your browser keeps.
- In Chrome or Edge, right-click anywhere on the page and choose Inspect.
- Click the Console tab.
- Reproduce the issue so any errors appear (they usually show in red).
- Screenshot the Console tab and send it with your report.
📩 How to Send It to Us
Attach the image to your email, or drag it into the support chat. You can paste a Windows snip directly into most reply boxes.
